The late businessman Francis Kiambi who was found dead at his home in Karen, Nairobi on Monday, January 9 succumbed to a cardiac arrest.
This was revealed on Friday following a post-mortem conducted on his body by Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor.
According to Dr. Oduor, the cardiac arrest was caused by Coronary Artery disease as a result of excess cholesterol in the body of the deceased.
Cardiac arrest results from electrical disturbances that cause the heart to suddenly stop beating the way it should.
In cardiac arrest, death can result quickly if steps aren’t taken right away. “Cardiac arrest may be reversed if CPR is performed and a defibrillator shocks the heart and restores a normal heart rhythm within a few minutes,” the American Heart Association says.
A police report indicated that Mr. Kiambi’s death was reported by his wife Mary Waigwe Muthoni who told police that they returned home together with her husband at around midnight on Sunday after spending some time at an entertainment joint in Karen.
The couple then reportedly got into a domestic altercation after the wife allegedly declined to be her husband’s guarantor in securing a Ksh.2 billion loan he was seeking to open a business.
After the disagreement, the two reportedly went ahead to sleep in different rooms, only for the 50-year-old businessman-cum-politician to be found dead with vomit on his bedside. The body of the deceased was moved to the Lee Funeral home after a family doctor from the nearby Karen Hospital confirmed the death.
Several people including a close relative and a lawyer who were together with the deceased at the entertainment joint have since been interrogated by police over the death. Attendants at Big Smoke Bar and Restaurant where the businessman and his wife spent time prior to his death were also grilled by detectives.
